It was in 1983, Fr. Mathew Thayil from Soraibil after inspecting a piece of marshy paddy field located beside Gossaigaon - Soraibil Road at padmabali near National Highway No.31C, purchased the land where the present Catholic Church and St. Anthony's E.M School (Senior Secondary), Gossaigaon stands. At the invitation and support of the local intellectuals under the leadership of Mr. Deven Basumatary, the then Chairman of Town Committee, the foundation stone for the school was laid on 2nd February 1984 by Rev. Fr. Mathew Kottaram.
The infant St. Anthony's began with KG section in 1984 with a few enrolments. Gradually, the buildings and other infrastructure were added. First the Church and KG section were constructed; then the main building came into existence. On February 23, 1992, the mighty two-storied hostel building was inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Robert Kerketta, the Bishop of Tezpur.
St. Anthony's celebrated Fr. Mathew Kottaram, the founder principal's Silver Jubilee of priesthood on September 21, 1996. After over 15 years of his selfless service, the school bid farewell to Fr. Kottaram on August 12, 1999.
The First HSLC batch in 1993 made the school proud with its 100 percent pass result, for the coming batches an example to follow. And SEBA gave academic permission and recognition to Classes-IX & X on 3rd February, 2000.
The Mission and the School thanked God and celebrated the Silver Jubilee of its existence in 2008 along with the priestly Ordination of Fr. Mathew Das, SJ.
There are many more achievements to the credit of this great institution. The success story is being written....as the journey continues......
St. Anthony's is sincerely grateful to all the principals and Headmistresses and the Teaching faculties who have rendered selfless and dedicated service in shaping the students and making the institution a qualitative one.
